Nick has been mixing records on and off for 20 years. Every Saturday was spent at his local record shop searching for house music, whether it was Jacking Chicago, Sheffield bleeps or Belgian trance. Eventually all his savings were dissolved into pieces of vinyl and mix tapes.
Getting his first live gig on York’s pirate radio station KLFM, Nick soon realised that house music was going to be a big part of his life. After a guest spot at a regular York event Widescreen, Nick played alongside another guest Alex Alterskye. Before long the pair realised that they had a similar style and it was from then that Nick was invited to play at Alex’s new monthly night called Random. Before long the pair would always be found behind the Random decks playing back 2 back.
After a lengthy residency of monthly parties at Dusk, and guest spots spinning tunes at Region 2 and Widescreen in York, Brass Monkey, Back to the Future and Retox in Nottingham and Koala in Hull both Nick and Alex decided it was time to hang up the headphones at Random and move on to pastures new.
It was from here that their new project was born. Freche Fruchte started as monthly nights of parties in Hull but has grown into a record label with the website posting weekly podcasts from renowned international and local djs.
With an ‘International DJ Raw Talent’ runner up position under his belt Nick’s style typically leans towards deep house with a scattering of Tech but is varied dependent on the crowd he’s playing too. As long are as the people are dancing he’s happy!
